About the artist

Addie Rementer is a mixed media artist based in Santa Cruz, California.  Addie’s formal art education was through Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado.  Naropa is a Buddhist College that integrates the best of Eastern and Western traditions with an emphasis on contemplative practices.  After studying in this type of environment, Addie learned to see the connection between the quality of her thoughts and the quality of her art.  Sitting meditation has become an integral part of her artistic practice and she feels that one would be lost without the other.

Addie often layers elements of the natural world with traditional art materials such as acrylic paint and gel mediums because she loves the earthy yet contemporary balance of the two.  Addie plays with a variety of materials such as dried flower petals, fabrics, beeswax, feathers, paper, and glitter. Some of her favorite compositions are made from leftover materials found lying around the house, even the bits and pieces on her studio floor that would otherwise have been vacuumed up. (View image)

Guided by intuition and inspiration, Addie embraces experimentation rather than adhering to specific techniques.  Her work in turn, imbibes the spirit of playfulness and imagination.

One of the central themes to Addie’s recent compositions involves the idea of wholeness.   The thought that everything is connected and even the smallest action can have a profound effect on the world.  This idea started with a piece she created last year titled Hope on The Horizon.  Circles are often a theme in her work.
